David George Carmody, 78, of Galesburg, passed away at 6:25 p.m. on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, Illinois.

He was born October 30, 1943 in Galesburg, the son of George A. and Marguerite C. (Potter) Carmody. David was reared and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1962. He later attended Hamilton Technical College, where he took electricians courses. David was a proud veteran of the United States Marines Corps. During his four-year enlistment, he served in the Vietnam War and received a number of medals. He was honorably discharged in September of 1967. David worked for many years in maintenance at Cottonwood Healthcare Center, until they closed. He then worked in maintenance at Knox County Nursing Home for many years, until his retirement in 1999.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Gail (David) Obrien of Owatonna, Minnesota; one brother, Joel (Leslie) Carmody of Sebring, Florida; two sisters, Carol Ballard and Carla (Doug) Larson, both of Galesburg; and two nieces, Ingrid (Patrick) Larson-Smith and Melissa (Ben) Johnson, both of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his daughter, Arlene (Ciffra) Carmody; a brother-in-law, Richard Ballard; and his beloved dog, Molly.

David was of the Lutheran faith. In his earlier years, he had a passion for drawing. He enjoyed golfing and going to Northgate Lanes, bowling on a few different leagues over the years. David adored animals. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. David was a devoted father, brother, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed.

Cremation will be accorded. A graveside service with military rites will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at East Linwood Cemetery in Galesburg. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory in Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society.
