Lincoln Trail Conference Football Strong from Top to Bottom in 2022

Share

It looks like, at least early on this football season, the Lincoln Trail Conference is as strong from top to bottom that its been in quite some time. Five out of the eight teams have three wins in their first four games. The three teams that do not have three wins were actually playoff qualifiers in 2021. One of those three teams are the Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes. A-Town, which finished with a record of (10-2) overall last season, was a very senior-heavy squad in 2021 that ended their first season in the LTC as the conference co-champ with Knoxville. A-Town head coach Rick Quinn says not only is there no easy games night-in, night-out in the LTC, they’ve held their own against some of the traditionally top teams in the Prairieland Conference, as well.

The Tornadoes fell to Mercer County 59-7 last Friday and face another (3-1) opponent this week in the Annawan-Wethersfield Titans. A-Town head coach Rick Quinn expects the Titans to be a challenging, athletic and physical team with solid quarterback play.

It’s a short week for both Abingdon-Avon and Annawan/Wethersfield. Due to the referee shortage around the state, the game will be played on Thursday night at Abingdon-Avon High School. It will be the first game played on the field since new sod that was laid down over the summer. The school also put in a new asphalt running track around the football field, as well.
