Melissa L. Totten, 81, of Roseville, IL, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2022 at the Roseville Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Roseville. She was born on March 13, 1941, in Keithsburg, Illinois the daughter of George “Ted” Heath and Celia (Norman) Heath.

Melissa was raised and educated in Keithsburg, Illinois, and graduated from Keithsburg High School in 1959. Melissa worked for the Illinois Bell telephone company in Monmouth, Illinois as an operator from 1959 to 1962, and later worked for Glastex (SeaStar Boats), Felt Industries, Mach I Boats, and Envision Boats in Monmouth as a hull laminator during the 1970s and 1980s. Melissa attended Carl Sandburg College and received certificates in business administration and computer information systems in 1988. She then worked for Casey’s General Store in Roseville from 1992 and retired in 2006. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Roseville, where she served on many church boards and committees.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, camping and fishing, and going to yard sales and flea markets. She loved her community and her church.

Melissa married Byron Totten on October 29, 1961, in her parents’ home in Keithsburg, Illinois.

She is survived by her husband Byron Totten of Roseville, Illinois; one daughter Lori (Brett) Burdette of Coopertown, Tennessee; one son Jeff (Pauline) Totten of Plymouth, Illinois; one sister Linda (Jerry) Lee of Keithsburg, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family interment of Melissa’s cremated remains will be scheduled at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family and left in the care of the funeral home.  Wise Family Funeral Home, Roseville, is handling the arrangements.
