The Monmouth-Roseville football team was back in action on Friday night in Orion, taking on the TRAC-West rival Chargers. The Titans were in need of a win to keep pace in a race for the IHSA playoffs, and they got in a big way, with a 34-12 win.

The Titans would open the game with the ball after receiving the kickoff, and would gash the Orion defense with the running game. A targeting penalty would extend the drive after the Titans were stopped on 4th down, but the offense was still held scoreless after the team was held on a 4th down once again. Starting at their own 5, the Chargers offensive drive stalled out quick, but they would convert a first down on a bad snap on the punt, that punter Caden Mielke turned into a first down. The Titans defense would make a play shortly after however, with safety Jerome Jackson jumping the route, and returning the ball all the way to the endzone for the game’s first score. Orion would punt on their next drive, and the quarter would end with the Titans driving.

M-R’s drive would stall out to begin the second quarter, but Orion was unable to get anything going on their next drive as well, and would punt the ball back to the Titans. Monmouth-Roseville would add on to their lead on the following offensive drive, with a 44 yard touchdown strike from Silas Braun to Jerome Jackson. The Titans could not convert the PAT and the score would 12-0 in favor of M-R. Orion would once again punt and the Titans launched a Hail Mary to the endzone, that would fall incomplete to end the half at 12-0.

Orion would open up the second half of play with the ball after the Titans kickoff. The Chargers in need of a spark on offense got to midfield, but ended up failing to convert a fourth down and turn the ball over on downs.

The Titans offense would take advantage of the defensive stop, driving down the field and scoring on a C.J Johnson touchdown run. Jerome Jackson would take in the 2 point conversion to bring the lead to 20-0. That score would last into the final quarter of play.

Orion opened the fourth quarter with their first touchdown drive, as Kale Filler found Maddox Arnold in the endzone from 10 yards out, to bring the score to 20-6(missed PAT). M-R’s offense would have no problem responding, with Jerome Jackson taking in his second touchdown of the night, this time from 49 yards out. The Chargers once again found an immediate an answer on a Cole Kratzburg kickoff return for a touchdown, to bring the game back down to 28-12. The Titans would punt on the next drive, and on the next drive for the Chargers, their 4th down pass with 3 minutes left was batted away to give the Titans the ball back. Jerome Jackson would all but seal the game on the next drive, with his 3rd rushing touchdown, from 49 yards out to widen the Titans lead. An Andy Myers interception in the endzone for the Titans, would give the ball back to the offense, and they would run the clock down to zeros and seal the 34-12 win.

For the Chargers, Kale Filler went 15/29 passing with 147 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Kaden Edmunds led in rushing with 33 yards on 6 carries, and Duncan Adamson led in receiving with 45 yards on 3 catches. For the Titans, Silas Braun completed 5 of his 12 passes for 80 yards, a touchdown and interception. C.J Johnson would lead the way in rushing with 203 yards and a touchdown on 33 carries. Jerome Jackson would add 3 touchdowns, 2 on the ground and one through the air. The Titans are still looking to find an opponent for next week, as they need to fill the void in the schedule left by Riverdale not fielding a varsity team this year. If they are unable to find an opponent, the Titans will be on bye with a forfeit win next week.
