Sandburg Men’s XC Team No. 10 in Initial USTFCCCA Rankings

The Carl Sandburg College men’s cross country team appeared at No. 10 in the initial US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s NJCAA Division II rankings released this week.

It’s the first time a Chargers cross country squad has been ranked in Week 1 of the regular season. Sandburg’s men’s team was sixth in last year’s final USTFCCCA rankings after it placed seventh at the NJCAA Division II championships.

The Chargers are coming off a solid showing at last week’s Bradley Intercollegiate, which included a strong field comprised largely of NCAA Division I programs. Sandburg finished seventh in the meet, including ahead of NCAA Division II McKendree and Division III Monmouth.

Sophomore Emmanuel Kiprop was the Chargers’ top finisher, taking 22nd in a field of 86 runners. Sophomore Calton Kibet, a first-team All-American at nationals as a freshman, was 32nd in last week’s race at Detweiller Park.

The Chargers’ next meet is the Heartland Invitational at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at Maxwell Park in Normal.
