Here’s our WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 4th, 2022:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is freshman girls swimmer, Hayden Johnson. After a great career as a youth swimmer, Hayden picked up right where she left off in her first varsity meet of her career. She placed first in the 200 IM, 2nd in the 100 yard breaststroke and was a part of two relay squads that placed 2nd out of 10 teams.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior boys cross country runner, Ben McVey. Ben had a great meet at the Galesburg Silver Streak Invitational at Lake Storey in Galesburg. His time of 19:10 was good enough for 58th place out of 145 total runners, with most of the field of participants being from Class 2A or 3A schools.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is sophomore boys golfer, Ethan Nichols. Ethan took 23rd overall at the Mercer County Invitational at Valley View Golf Club in Cambridge. He shot an 18-hole score of 95. Ethan was the low Heat golfer with a 48 in a pair of wins over A-Town and Knoxville earlier this year.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is junior football player, Amarie Richardson. Amarie was almost unstoppable in a 52-12 non-conference win over Thornton Fractional. He rushed 20 times for 183 yards. Amarie also crossed the goal line three times, with two of those coming in the first half, helping the Streaks to a 38-0 lead at the half.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior boys golfer, Patrick McKeown. Patrick shot a then-school record of 50 for the brand new golf program at A-Town in a meet at Gibson Woods last week. He backed that up with the second lowest score on the team by one shot in a narrow loss to Annawan/Wethersfield later in the week.
