On October 21, 2022, Asheem Afutu made his first appearance in Knox County Circuit Court on charges of Murder and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. These charges follow the July 24th shooting death of Gregory Tucker on Grand Avenue in Galesburg, Illinois. After the incident, the court issued a nationwide warrant for Afutu’s arrest. Afutu was ultimately arrest in Florida and was extradited to Knox County for prosecution. At the October 21st hearing, the court kept Afutu’s bond at $1,000,000, appointed a public defender, and set his preliminary hearing for November 14th. If convicted of Murder, Afutu faces a possible sentence of 45 years to life without the possibility of parole in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
