GALESBURG, Illinois – The Prairie Fire football team fell to the University of Chicago 50-14 in a Midwest Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

The Maroons marched down the field on the opening drive and scored at the 10:13 mark in the first quarter. The extra point was no good.

Knox took over at their own 13-yard line in the ensuing drive and Kaile Williams marched the team down the field before hitting an open Hunter Anderson for a 33-yard touchdown pass to give the Prairie Fire a 7-6 lead.

Chicago added a score in the last minute of the first quarter to recapture the lead. The Maroons then reeled off 23 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 36-7 lead into halftime.

After a 22-yard rush by Kaile Williams to highlight a nine play, 72-yard drive, Sam Walker ran for a three-yard touchdown in the third quarter to bring the score to 36-14.

Chicago added a score of their own in the third quarter to expand their lead to 43-14. The Maroons added the final score of the game with 10:02 left in the game.

Anderson led Knox with three catches for 64 yards and the score. He added 17 rushing yards on four attempts. Williams completed 9-of-16 passes for 128 yards, a TD, and two interceptions. He also tallied a team-leading 37 rushing yards.

Davis Brumbaugh and Anthony Garcia paced the Prairie Fire defense with seven tackles apiece. TJ Nehls added a sack and Brumbaugh had a tackle for a loss. Liam Gallagher earned an interception.

“We executed very well early on with some nice drives down the field,” said head coach Aaron Willits. “Unfortunately the turnover bug hit us a few too many times the rest of the game and we gave Chicago some easy points on the defensive end.”

Knox returns to action as they travel to Beloit on October 8.
