Michael L. Allen, 73,  of Adrian, MO, formerly of Lenexa, KS, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at his home. Michael was born on February 3, 1949, in Burlington, Iowa and is the son of Paul D. and Betty L. (Lewis) Allen. He grew up in Gladstone, IL, and graduated from Union High School in 1967. He attended Monmouth College, in Monmouth,IL before enlisting in the United States Navy in 1969. He served in Vietnam, the Philippines and Nicosia, Cyrus as a communication specialist until his discharge in March of 1973

He was united in marriage to Mary E. Gorman on February 2, 1974, in Dixon, IL> Michael’s entire career was spent in the swimming pool industry. He worked in various capacities for La Porte PLC, the United Kingdom and Bio Dex Laboratories, Phoenix, AZ. His last position was with Great Plains Supply, Lenexa, KS, as Vice President of Sales from 1998 until his retirement in December of 2018. He was a member of the National Pool and Spa Association.

Throughout his life Michael enjoyed serving his church community and was Stephens Minister for nine years with Indian Creek Community Church, Olathe, KS. He was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, Lea Wood, KS, since 2009. In his younger years he enjoyed traveling and playing golf. Later in life he would go on to root for his favorite teams – The University of Illinois Fighting Illini, the KC Royals, and the KC Chiefs. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters, Isabella, Grace, and Adelynn. 

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Adrian, MO, and his sons, Christopher Allen and Valerie of Amsterdam, MO. and Sean Allen and Elizabeth of Lenexa, Kansas. His granddaughters, Isabella, Grace, and Adelynn Allen also survive him. 

A Celebration of Life and graveside service for the interment of his ashes will be held at 11:00 am on October 15, 2022 at the Oquawka Cemetery in Oquawka, Illinois. A memorial fund is established for the Heart of America Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/kansascity.
