Michael “Mike” Holliday DMD, 75 of Abingdon, passed away at 4:35 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2022 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born October 21, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Anita (Sanfilippo) Leuzzi. He married the love of his life, Carol Wright on February 3, 1968 in Abingdon.
Dr. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carol; one daughter, Michelle Holliday of Hoboken, New Jersey; one grandson, U. S. Marine Samuel Holliday, stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; and his mother-in-law, Natalie Wright and family of Abingdon.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Anita Leuzzi on March 3, 2007.
He grew up in Brooklyn, where he graduated from high school. He studied Biology at Iowa Wesleyan University graduating in 1970. He studied Bacteriology at Iowa State University and graduated in 1972. He studied Dentistry at Fairleigh Dickinson University and graduated in 1976. He later studied Art at the School of Visual Arts graduating in 1982. He worked as a Dentist in Abingdon from 1997 to 2018. He was also a Tattoo Artist from 2000 to present. He had taught at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg from 1997 until 2002. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of the Abingdon Rotary Club and the Abingdon Road Knights. He enjoyed playing his guitars. He also enjoyed participating in the Heritage Days Civil War reenactments at Lake Storey in Galesburg and participating in cowboy scene reenactments, especially since he had the name of “Doc Holliday”.
Cremation will be accorded. Private services will be in his home state of New York at a later date. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
