Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 16th, 2022:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is sophomore boys soccer player, Ozzie Carmona. Ozzie had two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, and two assists in a double overtime win over Kewanee in the regional semifinals. Despite missing six games at the beginning of the season, he led the squad in goals for the season, with 15.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is sophomore volleyball player, Emrick Huston. Emrick had a fantastic Sherrard Tournament as the Red Storm won three of four matches. In those four matches, she handed out an average of 16 assists a match, including 26 in a victory over Knoxville. Earlier in the week, Emrick had 18 in a win over Galva.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior volleyball player, Bailey Ryan. Bailey’s versatility was on full display at the Bushnell-Prairie City Tournament last week. In five matches, she averaged 5 kills and nearly 13 digs each time out. Earlier in the week, Bailey hustled her way to 22 digs and hammered six kills in a win over Abingdon-Avon.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is junior boys cross country runner, Dominic Cantarini. Dominic has had a fantastic season, picking up medals in nearly every invitational he’s taken part in. The highlight so far has been earning a spot on the Western Big Six All-conference first team by crossing the finish line in 4th place at the league championship meet last week.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior soccer goalkeeper, Isaac Sampson. The Tornadoes were red-hot in the final few weeks of the season, going (5-2-1) in their last eight matches. A big part of that success was the play of Isaac. He recorded all five victories, including three shutouts. One of those shutouts was in a regional quarterfinal win over Canton.
