Barbara Jean Moore, 86, of Knoxville, formerly of Morton, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, Friday, November 4, 2022, 7:21 PM at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
Barbara was born on October 12, 1936 in Akron, Ohio. She was the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Frank) Dockus. Barbara married Charles “Corky” Moore on February 2, 1958 in Morton. Together they celebrated 44 years of marriage before his passing on February 7, 2002. Surviving Barbara are her children, Keith (Tammy) Moore of McKinney, Texas, Debra (Michael) Kozel of Canton, Georgia, Cathleen (Bob Carlson) Beverly of Knoxville and Mary (Kevin) Adolphson of Knoxville; seven grandchildren, Charles (Carrie) Kozel of Canton, Georgia, Jennifer (Terrence) Box of Cumming, Georgia, Cory (Jamie) Adolphson of Washington, IL, Cara (Keegan) Jones of Rock Island, Christopher (Hayley) Adolphson of Peoria, Kristopher Moore of San Antonio, Texas and Kelsey (Matt) Peacock of Celina, Texas; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Maralene Davis of Morton. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Barbara was a 1954 graduate of Morton High School. She graduated from Methodist School of Nursing in 1957. Barbara was a nurse for Knox County Nursing Home for 13 years. She then went on to work as a nurse at Marigold Rehab and Healthcare Center for 15 years. She was a member of the Knoxville United Methodist Church, where she participated in the Bell Choir, Church Choir and the Ladies Circle. She was also a member of the Knoxville Food Pantry and the Methodist Hospital Alumni Association. Barbara also participated in the St. Jude’s Bike-a-thon in the 1970’s. Most of all, Barbara enjoyed gardening, baking and spending time with her family and loved ones.
Funeral services will be 12:00 pm, Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville. Visitation will be at the funeral home, one hour prior to funeral services. Burial will follow services at the Knoxville Cemetery. Rev. Dave Mustain will officiate. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory are assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
