Mary Janet (Patterson) Allen passed away peacefully on October 20, 2022 in Danville, CA. Jan was born July 29, 1937 in Monmouth, IL to Kenneth “Pat” & Mary Patterson and was raised as an only child in Alexis, IL. She graduated from Alexis High School in 1955 and even though life took her far from Alexis, she remained incredibly close to her high school girlfriends until her final days.

Jan was loved by so many. She is survived by her daughter Jane Lafferty, Danville, CA and her son Michael (Jennifer) Allen, Lake Oswego, OR, her grandchildren Ceara, Conor, Madison & Luke as well as three generations of cousins, nephews, nieces and countless friends.

After high school, Jan went on to attend the University of Iowa to study dental hygiene. After finishing her studies at University of Iowa she moved to Mason City, IA where she practiced as a dental hygienist for Dr. Biebesheimer. There she met and married Glen Allen in 1960. Glen’s work eventually took the family to New Ulm, MN in 1976. In 1978 Glen’s work took them even further and the family settled in Pleasanton, CA. Upon arrival in California, Jan focused on raising her family. Here was where she continued to build deep abiding friendships with people who would be in her life until the end.

After Jane and Mike were grown, Jan went back to practicing dental hygiene for Drs. Hong, Diehl and Tjan in Castro Valley, CA. After retiring from the dental field, Jan immersed herself in Cornerstone Church, volunteering and attending bible study. She also spent many hours volunteering with Assistance League Amador Valley.

Jan enjoyed baking and did it often at the request of friends and family…her chocolate cake and sugar cookies were in high demand. She loved hosting her grandchildren for sleepovers and during basketball season she could be found cheering on her Warriors. Jan loved to travel and did so far and wide with family and friends, one of her most memorable trips being to Israel with her church and her daughter Jane. Jan will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at Wise Family Funeral Home Alexis, IL. Interment will be in the Alexis Cemetery. All are welcome. Memorials may be made to the Assistance League; https://www.assistanceleague.org/amador-valley/.
