GALESBURG — Setter Carmyn Baldwin was voted Arrowhead Conference Most Valuable Player to highlight five sophomore members of the Carl Sandburg College volleyball team who were selected to the All-Arrowhead Team after leading the Chargers to an unbeaten league championship.

Baldwin joins Peyton Bowman, who won the award in both 2018 and 2019, as the only players in program history to be named Arrowhead MVP. Baldwin is accompanied on this year’s all-conference squad by teammates Gracie Rademacker, Jadyn Swan, Jasmin McDaniel and Lauren Erke after Sandburg went 8-0 in conference play to win its ninth Arrowhead title and third in the last five years. Additionally, Chargers coach Todd Winkler was named the league’s Coach of the Year.

Baldwin, an All-Arrowhead pick for the second straight season, played in all 25 conference sets for the Chargers. She totaled 257 assists (10.3 per set), 17 aces and 57 digs (2.3 per set) across eight matches. Baldwin had at least 22 assists in each conference match, including 41 in the Chargers’ league opener Sept. 7 against Highland.

Rademacker, a 5-foot-9 right side, led Sandburg in Arrowhead play this season with 86 kills and 3.44 kills per set, and she tied Swan for the team lead in aces with 19. Rademacker put up a .316 hitting percentage and was strong defensively, totaling 91 digs and 3.64 digs per set. Her 19 kills Sept. 7 against Highland were her most in a conference match this season.

Swan, a 6-foot middle hitter, led the Chargers with 13 solo blocks and 19 total blocks in addition to tying Rademacker with 19 aces in Arrowhead action. She totaled 85 kills, finishing one behind Rademacker for most on the team, and averaged 3.40 kills per set while hitting .402. Swan had a hitting percentage of .500 or better in three Arrowhead matches.

McDaniel, a 5-3 libero, led Sandburg defensively with 108 digs and 4.32 digs per set against conference opponents. She also served nine aces. McDaniel had 19 digs in each of the Chargers’ two matches this season against Highland.

Erke, a 6-foot outside hitter, was voted to the all-conference team for the second straight year after another solid all-around season. While playing in seven matches, she finished third among Chargers in kills (68), kills per set (3.24), digs (63) and digs per set (3.0) while hitting .259 in Arrowhead play. She also had 10 blocks and 10 aces. Erke had 15 kills in Sandburg’s conference title-clinching win at Sauk Valley and added 16 in the Arrowhead finale against Illinois Valley.
