Nathaniel L. “Nate” Mims Sr.

Nathaniel L. “Nate” Mims Sr., 71, of Galesburg, died at 2:28 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2022, in Unity Point Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, following a short illness.

He was born October 22, 1951, in Greenville, Alabama, the son of Clyde J. and Bernetta V. “Bertie” (Mixon) Mims.  He married Mary L. Booth on October 20, 1973, in Keokuk, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary; three children, Nathan (Bridgit) Mims Jr. of Iowa City, Iowa, Jodi L. (Di Burrill) Mims of Rock Island, and Matthew Mims Sr. of Galesburg; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Fred (Susan) Mims of Iowa City and Bobby Mims of Kansas City, Missouri; his mother-in-law, Charlotte Booth of Elmwood; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.  He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde; his mother, Bertie; his father-in-law, Dick Booth; two brothers, Willie Mims and Terry Mims; and a sister, Ruth Mims.

Nate was a masonry contractor for 39 years.  He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1971.  Nate was a member of Second Baptist Church and W.L. Darrow Masonic Lodge.  He enjoyed fishing, bowling, laughing, and feeding anyone who needed it.  Mostly, Nate enjoyed time spent with his family.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, November 28, 2022, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg.  The family encourages Cardinal Red or Hawkeyes Black and Gold clothing for the visitation.  Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at the chapel with Rev. Robert Donaldson officiating.  Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery.  A repass will be at The Kensington Ballroom immediately after the burial.  Memorial contributions may be made to the family.  Online condolences may be made on the funeral home’s website at www.h-p-w.com.
