Polk City Boy Named Hawkeye’s Kid Captain

A Polk City 2nd grader will be the Hawkeye’s Kid Captain when Iowa plays Purdue this Saturday.  Carver Meiners was diagnosed with a rare heart condition before he was born, and had open-heart surgery when he was just six-days old at University of Iowa Stead Family Hospital.  Surgeons were able to move arteries the size of a tip of a ball point pen to correct blood flow to his body.  Eight years later he enjoys flag football, baseball, wrestling, and reading. He organized a book drive this year for the Children’s Hospital.
