Robert E. Hughes, age 77, of Oquawka, Illinois; passed away at 2:33 am on November 23, 2022 at OSF St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford, Illinois. Robert was born on November 4, 1945 in Cumberland, Wisconsin and is the son of Lloyd Eugene and Wanda Delia Kurschner Hughes. Robert was raised in Barron, Wisconsin where he attended local schools and graduated from the Barron High School with the class on 1963. Robert married Linda Ann Edlemon on December 19, 1964 in Aurora, Illinois and she preceded him on January 22, 2019.  At the age of 18, Robert began work for Caterpillar, Inc. in Aurora, Illinois where he worked for thirty years and until his retirement. He loved to play golf and did so whenever and wherever he could. He also loved bowling, playing softball, and going fishing. 
Robert is survived by two sons, Marc Hughes of Mt. Erie, Illinois and Tony Hughes of Oquawka, Illinois. There are six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren also surviving him.  His sister, Cindy Otto of Cameron, IL and Michael survive and his brother, Gerald Hughes also survives in Osceola, Wisconsin. He is preceded in his death by his parents, his wife Linda, his daughter, Teresa, and two grandsons Tim Logel and Billy Plum. 

As were his wishes, Robert is to be cremated, and there will be no viewing visitation, or funeral currently planned by his family. Robert’s ashes and a graveside interment is planned at a later date. To leave a remembrance or for more information please do so on this site.
