W-HFB President Jake Armstong Says an Excellent Fall Harvest Seen Locally

Share

Reports of an excellent crop for the local area this harvest season. Meanwhile, record lows of the Mississippi River continue to cause concerns in the transportation of goods. Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau President and local operator at the Cameron Grain Elevator Jake Armstrong shares for the first time in nine years, they are storing soybeans due to the low river levels:

“I have been back nine years now and this will be the first time we have stored soybeans because of that. Barge terminals are just not able to get them out, they are not bed for them. We are going to have to hold onto them until next year. At some point we will ship them out. Typically this time of the year it is how quickly can you buy the beans and how quickly can you move them and that is just not going to be the case this year. We have started moving corn. Ethanol plants are starting to bid up a little bit, so things are good at the elevator. Had a smooth fall and will hopefully get another window for ammonia and dry fertilizer application.”
