Welcome Reception for Galesburg City Manager Gerald Smith

The City of Galesburg will welcome Gerald Smith as the new Galesburg City Manager on Monday, November 7, 2022. Mr. Smith was selected by the Galesburg City Council to fill the position after a nationwide recruitment and selection process, and his employment contract was approved by the Galesburg City Council on September 26, 2022. 

Smith has worked in public administration for over 25 years and has previously served as the City Manager in the City of Creedmoor, North Carolina; Maquoketa, Iowa; and Junction City, Kansas. He also served as the Director of General Services for Kansas City, Missouri.

Smith earned a Master of Public Administration from Northern Illinois University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Urban History and Political Science from Elmhurst College. He is an ICMA credentialed manager, and is certified in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace.

The city will host a public welcome reception for City Manager Gerald Smith on Monday, November 7, 2022, from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Galesburg City Hall. Citizens and community partners are welcome to stop by the reception to meet Mr. Smith and welcome him to Galesburg.
