WIAR Grateful for Support from a Giving Community

Western Illinois Animal Rescue is a registered nonprofit organization run by volunteers and donations, which Critter Coordinator Terri Copeland and Board Member Kathy Shamblin say both are in need:

“As anybody who has owned a pet knows, they are on a routine. They have their morning breakfast volunteers; they have their noon volunteers, what we call their Happy Hour volunteers around the evening, and then bedtime. What goes into the volunteering is getting the dogs out so they can have exercise and take care of business, cleaning up any messes that they have created in the meantime, and making sure they have food, water, and occasional treat,” says Copeland.

“We always need cat litter, whether it be the clay or the scoopable, we go through a lot of that, bleach, paper towels, small paper plates, and food, definitely food. We give them Purina and with the soft food we give them usually Fancy Feast,” Shamblin states.

This calendar year, Western Illinois Animal Rescue has assisted 300 cats and dogs in finding forever homes.
