As drivers age it’s important they know and understand how to adjust for slower reflexes, weaker vision and other changes. AAA’s RoadWise™ has been approved in Illinois. Upon successful completion of the course, the student is eligible to receive a discount on their auto insurance.
AAA RoadWise™ is a senior defensive online driving program and the course is designed to positively affect driving behavior for senior drivers and to help them learn about and adjust to age-related physical changes. As older drivers begin to experience physical changes to the body or feelings of driving discomfort, it is important to know and understand how to amend to these changes.
“Driving is a skill that can and should be continually improved,” said Molly Hart, spokesperson for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Older drivers may become uncomfortable in certain driving situations and a driver refresher can improve comfort and safety behind the wheel.”
The course includes:
- Extending Your Safe Driving Career
- Distractions, Drowsiness, Aggressive Driving & Road Rage
- Managing Visibility, Time & Space
- Alcohol & Medications
- Comfort & Safety Tips
“Another feature of the course allows senior drivers to become more familiar with the latest in-vehicle technology such as adaptive cruise control and lane-departure warning systems,” added Hart. “Learning the proper use of these and other safety systems will enhance senior drivers’ comfort when they are on the road.”
AAA’s RoadWise™ is one of the first courses to be approved under the new law that amends the Illinois Insurance Code. It allows reductions to rates and premium charges for automobile liability insurance for any insured driver over age 55 upon successful completion of the National Safety Council’s Defensive Driving Course or a motor vehicle accident prevention course.
The course is eight hours and may be taken in segments. The cost of the program is $19.95 for AAA Members and $21.95 for non-members. Twenty-four hour support will be available.
