Mary E. Dowell, 97, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 6:58 a.m., Sunday, December 18, 2022 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth, IL. 

She was born on August 12, 1925 in the Rosetta Township, IL, the daughter of Harry and Florence (Goff) Alecock.  Mary was raised and educated in Rosetta.

Mary married Thane E. Dowell on December 21, 1941 in Kehoka, MO; he preceded her in death in 1994. 

Mary was a homemaker; her family was her life.  She enjoyed keeping a meticulous home and yard.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. 

Surviving Mary are her children, C. William (April) Dowell of Monmouth, IL, Pamela Slater of Monmouth, IL; her grandchildren, Patricia (Mike) Procino of Laurel, DE, Kaye Hennenfent of Normal, IL, Brandon (Rhiannon) Slater of Milford, DE, Payton Dowell of Monmouth, IL; step grandchildren, Cynthia (Kevin) Glisan of Larchland, IL, James (Tammy) Slater of Biggsville, IL; her sisters, Betty A. Brown of Monmouth, IL, Maida (Clifford) Johnson of Biggsville, IL, Dorothy Day of Moline, IL, Jean Anderson of Burlington, IA, and Sandra (Cecil) Cox of LaHarpe, IL.  Also surviving are several great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Patricia Dowell, four brothers, and three sisters.     

Private family funeral services will be at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL.  Interment will be in Biggsville Cemetery, Biggsville, IL.  No visitation hours are planned.  Memorials can be made to OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth Fire Department, or GHAS Ambulance Service.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.  For more information or to leave an online condolence please visit, www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com
