Monmouth City Council has amended their truck route ordinance to address through truck traffic concerns. City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher informs this discussion to amend the ordinance stemmed from increased truck traffic on 11th Street:
“What it basically does is that while it designates the truck route, and 11th Street is not designated as a truck route, trough trucks are not allowed on any of the streets in town, including truck routes, except for local deliveries. If it is just a through truck traffic and there are no local deliveries, they are not supposed to be on a local city street, whether they are designated or not designated as truck routes. This will give the police department the kind of authority that they need to try to limit the amount of through truck traffic we are seeing, particularly traffic that is somehow getting itself on 11th Street. That road is not built for that heavy truck traffic.”
The amended truck route ordinance does not prohibit trucks from making local deliveries within Monmouth city limits.
