The Monmouth-Roseville Titans girls varsity basketball squad was back in action last night at The Shoebox of Monmouth-Roseville high school. The undefeated Lady Titans were playing in their third Three Rivers Conference game of the season, against the 4-4 Fillies of Morrison. M-R would end up improving to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play, outlasting Morrison in a chippy and physical game.

The game opened in good favor for Morrison, as the Fillies hung with the Titans in the first quarter, matching their physicality, and taking a 10-10 tie into the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Senior guard Mattie Gillen caught fire, taking advantage of a Morrison technical foul to score two free throws, and knock down the three on the possession after. Gillen finished the half with 15 points and 3 three-pointers as the Titans took a 31-23 lead into the half.

A strong 13-6 third quarter would help the Titans begin to pull away from Morrison, as they took a 15-point lead into the final 8 minutes of play. Monmouth-Roseville would use the final quarter to run down the clock and come away with the 50-40 win.

In the statbook for the Titans, Mattie Gillen poured on 26 points to lead the Titans, knocking down 5 three pointers and shooting 10/10 from the free throw line. The Lady Titans take the weekend off and get back in action at home against Rockridge on Monday. For the full replay of the WMOI broadcast HERE
