Monmouth City Council has approved a resolution of support and the commitment of local funds to match a grant to build a new water treatment plant north of town, says City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher:

“This is the grant that the city if going for through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. It is a one million dollar grant to build a water treatment plant out on the north side. This would be in conjunction with another grant that we got to drill a new production water well out there. This project is really geared at trying to provide adequate supply of portable water to residents and the businesses and it will hopefully facilitate expansion at the Smithfield facility for additional harvesting operations and new employment opportunities.”

Additionally, Monmouth City Council also approved a 30% reimbursement through the Downtown TIF District for the repair and replacement of a new roof at Karen’s Cleaners in the amount of $5,694.
