Titans Down Illini West, Finish WIU Holiday Tourney as Consolation Champions

The Monmouth-Roseville Titans wrapped up play in the Western Holiday Tournament on Friday night, taking on the Chargers of Illini West in the consolation championship game. The contest was back and fourth for most of the evening, but it was the Titans outlasting Illini West in the end, and finishing the tournament 3-1.

The Titans opened the game early with a 10-2 run, aided by 7 points from C.J. Johnson and a three from Jake Steele. After a timeout, the Chargers began to cut into the lead, going on a 7-0 run of their own to bring the game to 10-9. First 8 minutes of play would end with Monmouth-Roseville leading 18-12. A 12-9 second quarter brought Illini West within 3. A Titans and Chargers went back and fourth out of the halftime break, with M-R holding onto their lead after the third quarter, by a score of 36-31. A solid showing in the fourth quarter from the Titans would prove to be too much for Illini West to handle, as Monmouth-Roseville came away with the 56-44 win.

With the victory Monmouth-Roseville moves to 9-7 overall. They get back into action on Tuesday night, when a home match against TRAC rival Erie-Prophetstown. For the full replay of the WMOI broadcast, click HERE
