Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending December 4, 2022:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, CJ Johnson. CJ came up big in crunch time in a 43-42 comeback win over Mercer County. Trailing by four points late in the game, he hit a big 3-pointer to draw the Titans within one point. CJ would then hit two, game-winning free throws with less than seconds left in the game.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls basketball player, Katie Flynn. Katie’s play on the offensive end of the floor was very instrumental in her team’s (3-0) week. She was in double figures in two of the three wins. Kate averaged 9 points per game and drilled a total of four, 3-pointers.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior boys bowler, Conner Gibb. Conner was the leading Heat boys bowler at the Abe Lincoln Invitational in Springfield. He rolled a six-game total of 1,073 for an average of nearly 179 pins a game. His 3-game high was 598 and his single-game high was 223. Conner placed 27th overall.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is junior boys wrestler, Gauge Shipp. Gauge kept his undefeated start to the season going with a first place finish at the Carson Dejarnatt Invitational in Sterling. He rolled through the 126 pound weight class with a (3-0) record. All three matches ended in technical falls.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior girls bowler, Ella Tucker. Ella was the top placing Tornado girls bowler at the Abe Lincoln Inivitational in Springfield. She rolled a 6-game score of 972 for an average of 162. That total was good enough for 18th place overall. Ella’s top 3-game series was 535 and she had a single-game high of 199.
