Our beloved mother Barbara Kneer Cantrell, 87, died on Sunday January 1st, 2023, at her home in Galesburg, IL, with her sons by her side.

She was born July 25, 1935, at Princeville, IL as the daughter of Francis and Maude Down Kneer. She married Donald C. Cantrell June 19, 1960.

Surviving are two sons, Steven (Patricia) of Liberty Township, OH and Mark (Heather) of Atlantic Beach, FL; four grandchildren, Michael, Kyle, Nicole, and Larkin. She was preceded in death by her parents and a baby brother, Russell Francis. She had many very special friends.

She graduated from Williamsfield High School, attended Grinnell College, and graduated from Bradly University. She also attended the University of Illinois.

She taught school in west suburban Chicago and Galesburg. She worked at Knox College Library and did substitute teaching.

She was a member of Galesburg First United Methodist Church, where she was active in its Library, church historian, Sisters of Faith, and on various boards. Other activities included Community Health Foundation, volunteering at its Community Treasures shop, Galesburg Woman’s Club, Galesburg Historical Association, Knox County Retired Teachers, and several bridge clubs. She served for many years on the City of Galesburg Landmark Commission.

Visitation will be 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg. A brief prayer service will follow at 3:30 p.m. led by Rev. Vince Rohn.  There will be burial service in Princeville, IL at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
