James J. Sayers, 71, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 1:42 a.m., Monday, January 16, 2023 at Roseville Rehab & Healthcare, Roseville, IL. 

He was born on May 26, 1951 in Peoria, IL.   

James worked at Meling’s Restaurant in Monmouth for many years as a dishwasher and assisted the janitorial staff.  He was with Warren Achievement for over 30 years and Kirkman Composites for over 20 years.  He was a member of the Society of Creative Anachronism.  He enjoyed camping, and grilling out.  James collected knives, anything medieval, pirates, Harry Potter, and he was knighted at Medieval Times.  He participated in Special Olympics for many years and earned several medals for skiing.    

Surviving James are his special friends in his life, George & Vicki Raymond of Monmouth, IL, Mariah Sloan of Aurora, IL, Mark & Steven Kirkman of Monmouth, IL, Judy Kirkman of Pocatello, ID, Barb & Maggie Bell of Monmouth, IL, and Captain Jack, his cat.    

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Cremation rites have been accorded.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date on his birthday, more information will be provided closer to the service date.  Memorials can be made to the James Sayers Memorial Fund.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.  For more information or to leave an online condolence please visit, www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com
