Margery Jean Lopez, 65, of Galesburg, died peacefully at 8:43 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.

She was born January 4, 1957, in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Donald J. and Betty M. (Walker) Mills. Margie graduated from Galesburg High School in 1975. She worked at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in the dietary department for around 30 years, until her retirement in 2014.

Left to cherish her memory is one daughter, Lisa (Javier) Cruz of Galesburg; one grandson, Emilio Cruz of Galesburg; one brother, Thomas Utterback; and one sister, Linda (Christopher) Mowrer of Rio, Illinois. Also surviving are two nephews, Steve (Dawn) Smith and Eric Elias, both of Galesburg; and three nieces, Joy Lynne Smith of Galesburg, Caitlin Mowrer of Galesburg, and Chelsea Mowrer of Rio. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Donna Mills and Terry Cox.

Margie was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. In her free time, she enjoyed reading and listening to music. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandson that she adored. Margie will be deeply missed.

Cremation will be accorded. A memorial visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Eulogies will be shared by immediate family members directly following the visitation. A luncheon/celebration of her life will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials may be made to the family.
