As the calendar rolls into a new year, new policy changes follow. United Superintendent Jeff Whitsitt says there are policy changes being enacted for the schools, which will be discussed during the January board meeting:

“Come our January board meeting, we will spend some time talking about the first reading of some policy changes to coincide with some of the legislation that passed last spring, but isn’t enacted until either January 1st or July 1st of this coming year. There is a stack of them though. Legislature was really busy in the spring. A simple one, we were doing our tax levy and we held at truth and taxation hearing. One of the new legislative acts is every time we hold a hearing, we have to report on our fund balances, which has never necessarily been the case. It kind of coincides with particularly a levy hearing. That is going to be a mandate of hearings moving forward.”

The next United Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 12th.
