Abingdon-Avon Tornado Boys Basketball’s Second Half of the Season Surge Ends in Semifinals

Share

The Abingdon-Avon high school boys basketball team competed in the Class 1A United regional semifinals last night at United High School. The Tornadoes battled with the 23-9 ROWVA-Williamsfield Cougars, and took a 5 point lead into halftime, but a strong second half from ROWVA propelled them to a 41-36 win, ending A-Town’s season. Abingdon-Avon began the season without a win, opening up 0-14, but the Tornadoes put it together down the stretch, finishing the season by winning 11 out of their last 16 games. Speaking on the WRAM postgame show, 2nd year Head Coach Cory Link says the team’s resilience last night and all season helped them right the ship.

A-Town officially ends the season at 11-20 overall, and 8-5 in Lincoln Trail Conference play. The Tornadoes look to have a promising future with the current core, as they do not graduate a player from their current roster.
