Carin Lea Johnson, 56, of Galesburg, died at 2:42 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born May 20, 1966 in Galesburg, the daughter of Jackie Jerald and Jo Ann (Smith) Johnson. Carin was reared and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1984. She later received her associates degree from Carl Sandburg College.

Carin is survived by three nephews, Phillip (Heather) Anderson of Orion, Illinois, Thomas Hunborg of Galesburg, and Jeremy Hunborg of Galesburg. Also surviving are several great nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; her parents; and one sister, Sara Tucker.

Carin worked as a Paraprofessional for the Galesburg Community Unit School District 205 for over 30 years, retiring in 2022. She was also a Sunday school teacher for many years and was involved in Girl Scouts for about 30 years. Carin really enjoyed being around kids; whether it was during school, girl scouts, or spending time with her great nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed doing arts and crafts. Carin will be deeply missed.

Cremation will be accorded. A memorial visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory in Galesburg. Private family burial of her cremated remains will be at a later date at Abingdon Cemetery in Abingdon, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Galesburg Community Unit School District 205. Tax Levy Passed by M-R Board of Education

The Monmouth-Roseville Board of Education has passed their Tax Levy, which Superintendent Ed Fletcher expects the rate to be very similar: “I’m certain it is going to be very similar
