On Sunday, Illinois State Senator Mike Halpin will be the keynote speaker at the McDonough County Democratic Coalition’s 37th Annual Presidents’ Day dinner.

Halpin served as a legislative aide for Congressman Lane Evans and then followed Lane’s footsteps in obtaining a law degree, graduating from University of Illinois. He is a partner at the Rock Island firm of McCarthy, Callas, & Feeney, P.C.  where his primary areas of practice are Labor Law and Municipal Law, as well as representing working people in their family law, traffic, and real estate matters. Representing Illinois’ 39th District, Halpin committee assignments include Higher Education; Veterans Affairs; Approp Ed; State Government; Judiciary; and Special Committee on Pensions.

“We are thrilled to host Sen. Halpin,” said McDonough County Democratic Coalition Chair Tammie Leigh Brown-Edwards. “As a newly elected state senator, we are excited to hear about state initiatives he plans to implement and support.”

Also attending the dinner as a special guest is Pamela Davidson. Davidson is Galesburg native who is a political and civic activist, the first African-American woman to be elected chair of the Knox County Board, chairwoman of the Knox County Democrats and active member of the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) Union.

As an activist, Davidson has a long history markedly improving the lives of others locally, regionally, and internationally with the various elected offices she has held, Brown-Edwards said.

“Guests are in for an evening of energetic and dynamic speakers,” said Brown-Edwards. “These two speakers have undeniable sparks that can brighten any room.”
