The Monmouth-Roseville girls basketball team competed in the class 2A Rockridge sectional semifinal on Tuesday night. Coming off their first regional title in program history, the Lady Titans took the trip north to Rockridge High School to take on the 28-5 Deer Creek Mackinaw Lady Chiefs. The Titans would battle throughout the game, but a late surge from Dee-Mack would be too much to handle as the Lady Chiefs took home the 64-50 win. Deer Creek Mackinaw opened up leads as large as 21-12, and 38-26 but M-R continued to cut into the leads and brought it back to 38-34. From that point in the third quarter however, the Titans would be outscored 26-16 in the final stretches of the game, as the Lady Chiefs advance to the sectional championship on Thursday night.
In the statbook for the Titans, Tatianna Talivaa, Mattie Gillen, and Lexi Finnicum all led the way with 11 points while Carmyn Huston added 9. The Monmouth-Roseville girls finish the season at 26-7, the most wins in a single season in program history. The Titans graduate 9 seniors from this year’s team, but will bring back key contributors in Talivaa, Huston, and Brianna Woodard, and Meyah Hunter, as well as many players from the JV level.
