Monmouth Police Department Investigator Josh Kramer informs a recent scam on the rise to be on the lookout for is fake online package delivery notices:
“You will get an email or a text message saying that there is a problem with your package or we need to confirm information about your purchase, something along those lines. Obviously it sparks your attention, I either did order something or I didn’t order something, what are they contacting me about. It starts right there. You respond or you call them and next thing you know you are going to be on the phone and they will be saying that they need to confirm information with you and that there is a problem with it. You can tell them you didn’t order anything; they will convince you that you did and next thing you know they will be asking you to buy gift cards of some sort to take care of the problem.”
Investigator Kramer advises going directly into the app or account you ordered from and tracking the status of an ordered package.
