Betty R. Peeler, 82, of Knoxville, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at the home of her daughter in Galesburg.

Betty was born on August 27, 1940 in rural Victoria. She was the daughter of Clarence and Jeanett (Lapham) Allen. She married Ray Peeler on November 13, 1965 in Alton, Illinois. Together, they celebrated 21 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on January 7, 1987. Betty is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Lossee “Weed”) Sedwick of Galesburg; grandson, Damion (Brianna) Sedwick of Galesburg; and sister, Florence Allen and Mary Allen, both of Knoxville. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Nancy Allen and brother, Keith (Carolyn) Allen.

Betty graduated from Toulon High School. She then went on to graduate from Illinois State University with a Bachelor’s in Education. Betty spent her teaching career at Calhoun CUSD 40 teaching High School typing and shorthand. She taught for 29 years, retiring in 1990. Betty was a resident of Harden from 1962-1990. She enjoyed spending time with her family and spoiling her grandson.

Cremation rites will be accorded. No services are planned at this time. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, 120 South Public Square, Knoxville, Illinois 61448.
