Cathy J. Haynes, 62, of Galesburg, died unexpectedly at 11:12 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2023, at home.

She was born February 17, 1961, in Avon, the daughter of Donald “Weasel” M. and Mary E. (McVay) Haynes.

She is survived by a daughter, Dana Haynes of Abingdon; a grandson, Jamie Thomas of Abingdon; siblings, Nancy (the late Larry) Dumse of Galesburg, Larry (Jennifer) Haynes of Avon, Audrey (the late Jeff) Creek of Galesburg, and Sally (Mike) Hillman of East Galesburg; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Patsy A. Nutt.

Cathy was raised on the family farm in rural St. Augustine. She graduated from Abingdon High School. She worked at many places in the area including, Carhartt, Lowes, Old Peking, Farm King, Golden Corral, the Grandview Restaurant, and most recently, the Salvation Army Thrift Store. Like her mother, Cathy enjoyed shopping and collecting clothes and shoes. She enjoyed animals and was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan. Cathy especially loved spending time with her grandson, Jamie.

Cremation will be accorded. A joint visitation for Cathy and her parents, Donald and Mary Haynes, will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Knox County Humane Society. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
