The Monmouth City Council is applying for grants to replace lead service lines within the City, which is to occur in the next 20 to 30 years, explains Mayor Rod Davies:
“We are trying to apply for just under $5.5 million for that project and it will help the city pay for the mandated lead service line replacement. We are working to get as much funding as we can because we will not only have to replace the lead service line from the house to the curb stop, but then we also are going to have to tear up the road to replace the lead line from the water main to the curb stop. It is suppose to fall on the homeowners, but we are going after as much funding as we can to help minimize the burden to our local residents.”
Mayor Davies stated without grant funding, a homeowner would be looking at somewhere between two and three thousand dollars to replace a service line.
