Monmouth’s Mayor Rod Davies Addresses Circulating Rumors on Downtown Revitalization Project

Monmouth Mayor Rod Davies anticipates the water main replacements bids for the Downtown Revitalization project to go out soon with construction beginning later this fall. Addressing one of the latest rumors of the project, Mayor Davies clarifies a four way stop is not in the design:

“The last rumor we hears was that we were taking the square out and we were putting a four-way stop in, that is not part of the design. It will be a wider area. There is a lot of confusion with cars going around the square and we do have to make it wide enough because even though it is not a truck route, we do have local deliveries of some tractor trailer type trucks, so we have to be wide enough to accommodate that plus our public safety equipment. For the most part it is just one lane of traffic around there. Sometimes you get two and it will be a great opportunity to eliminate one more opportunity for an auto accident.”

City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher informs a public hearing on the conceptual design planning phase for the Downtown Monmouth Revitalization project was held two years ago.
