Senator Anderson files bill on overtime pay

State Senator Neil Anderson (R-Andalusia) has filed several new bills as the start of the 103rd General Assembly is underway in Springfield.
One of those bills, Senate Bill 51, would deduct state taxes on overtime pay.
“There isn’t a more fitting time for the Majority Party to call this bill as working families are struggling to make ends meet due to rising inflation costs,” said Senator Anderson. “People in Illinois are already taxed enough, and we should not punish them for working extra by taking even more of their hard-earned money.”
The legislation would create a deduction on any overtime wages earned in Illinois. Wages earned in excess to a taxpayer’s regular monthly or weekly salary would be exempt from the state income tax.
Senate Bill 51 is currently held in the Senate’s Assignments Committee.
