Shirley A. Dennison, 85, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 8:15 a.m., Saturday, March 18, 2023, surrounded by her family at the Roseville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Roseville, IL.

Shirley was born March 4, 1938 in Galesburg, IL the daughter of John and Thelma (Jackson) Danforth.  She was raised on the family farm attending Churchill School. She then lived near Cameron and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1956.

Shirley married Robert E. Dennison on August 26, 1960, at the Cameron Christian Church, Cameron, IL, and he survives.

While in high school Shirley worked at Hartman Dime Store in Monmouth.  She then worked at Kelly’s Cleaner, Brown-Lynch-Scott, Formfit, IRC in Burlington, IA, and Smolers. Lastly Shirley worked for the Monmouth School District for 17 years, supervising the playground, working in the cafeteria and in the office before retiring.

She was a member of the Cameron Christian Church.  She enjoyed going to sports, especially watching her sons and grandsons play and coach.  She was a Los Angeles Lakers fan.  She also enjoyed going to Lake Warren and her backyard pool.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Dennison of Monmouth; sons, Doug (Annette) Dennison and Todd Dennison both of Monmouth; 2 grandsons, Dylan Dennison of Monmouth and Dalton Dennison of Galesburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two half-brothers.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2023, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the services.  A private family interment will take place at Silent Home Cemetery, Cameron, IL.  Memorials may be given to the Shriners Children’s Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
