The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 750 E South Street on March 10, 2023, at 8:08 PM. The response included all three stations and the 11 personnel on duty. Upon arrival, a small fire was located in the basement of the home. Battalion Chief Donald Brackett established command and the Brooks Street Station crew made an initial attack from the exterior before entering the structure with an attack line to extinguish the fire.

All occupants were able to evacuate the residence prior to the Fire Department’s arrival. The fire was confined to the basement of the home, which sustained heavy fire damage; the interior of the home sustained minor smoke damage. Preliminary damage estimates are $10,000. No injuries were reported.

While en route, the Fremont Street Station crew was diverted for a second structure fire at 741 Monmouth Blvd. Off-duty fire personnel provided emergency staffing from Central Fire Station and responded. Upon arrival, a large fire was located in a detached garage at the rear of the residence. Captain James Pendergast established command and both crews made an exterior fire attack.

The fire was confined to the garage, with no extension to the nearby residence. Preliminary damage estimates are $18,000. No injuries were reported.

An emergency callback of off-duty fire personnel was initiated to provide emergency coverage for the City. Galesburg Fire Investigators classified the cause of the fire to be undetermined. The investigation is still ongoing.
