A very busy first quarter of the year for the Jamieson Community Center. 241 seniors were served in the month of March through the Senior Nutrition program, 324 visits at the Food Pantry, more than doubled from a year ago, and Executive Director Nancy Mowen anticipates numbers in April to exceed those of last month:
“So far the trend in April is that the numbers are going to exceed our March numbers and for us, in the nine years that I have been at Jamieson Community Center, we have never had that many visitors. That exceeds our previous high by about 35 visits. It’s due to inflation and then the emergency SNAP benefits that were authorized during COVID were ended and so we have rising costs across the board and people with fewer SNAP benefits.”
In June, congregate meal sites will be open at Strom Center in Monmouth and the sites in Henderson County will also reopen.
