Cubs Agree to 3-Year Extension with All-Star Outfielder Ian Happ

Ian Happ is going to spend a few more years in Chicago.  The Cubs inked the All-Star outfielder to a three-year extension worth 61-million dollars yesterday.  Happ was slated to be a free agent at the end of the 2023 season, but his new extension will keep him with the Cubs through 2026.  Happ earned his first All-Star selection last season, and the 28-year-old is hitting .314 with a home run and six RBI this year.

The Cubs weren’t able to solve Logan Gilbert during a 5-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners at Wrigley Field.  Gilbert struck out seven Cubs and allowed just one run in six-and-two-thirds innings, while Chicago’s Marcus Stroman was charged with his first loss after surrendering two runs in six frames.  Cody Bellinger hit a solo home run in the losing effort.  The Cubs are in third-place in the NL Central at 6-and-5.  They hit the road to visit the Dodgers tomorrow night.
