After 12 years, Monmouth- Roseville School Board President Kevin Killey has retired from the school board. During the board’s monthly meeting Tuesday, Monmouth Roseville superintendent Ed Fletcher got emotional as he presented Killey with a plaque commemorating his years of service.

“Mr. Killey was one of the first people I met when I came here. He was there interviewing me, and part of the board that selected me to be the superintendent,” said Fletcher.

During Killey’s tenure on the school board, the district was faced with some changes and challenges, starting with the consolidation of the Roseville and Monmouth school districts.

“And then the financial concerns that came a few years later after the consolidation. Even being on a board at that time was difficult,” said Fletcher. “Then dealing with the proration of general state aid- that was a difficult time for the school district. All the board members who were there had to make some tough decisions. Then, the pandemic hit.”

As School Board President and Superintendent, Killey and Fletcher worked closely, discussing ideas for the district. Fletcher adds that as board president, Killey was “even keeled”, listening to both parents and staff for all perspectives as he guided decisions with the board.
