Fighting Scots Men’s & Women’s Lacrosse Drop Games Over the Weekend

The Monmouth College men’s lacrosse team traveled to St. Paul, Minnesota for a Saturday MLC contest and lost to the University of Northwestern (Minn.) 18-1. The Scots (1-10, 0-2) last traveled to UNW (3-5, 2-0) for the 2021 MLC Championship Game.

The Eagles scored 1:47 into the game and led 4-0 after the first quarter. They pushed the lead to 7-0 with three man-up goals early in the second period and led 12-0 at half. The Eagles scored twice in the third quarter and led 15-0 when Carlos Hernandez (Billings, Montana) got the Scots on the board. Kai Johnson (Sun Prairie, Wisconsin) picked up the assist with 9:16 to play. The hosts scored the final three goals of the game for an 18-1 win.

Gordon Kiesgen (Spring Grove, Illinois) led the Scots with four ground balls and Xandru Borst (Schererville, Indiana) led the team with four caused turnovers. Nehemiah Declaw (Aurora, Colorado) made 15 saves in goal.

The Scots are next in action at home on Saturday, April 15 against Lake Forest at Noon.

The Monmouth College women’s lacrosse team dropped a non conference game to Wisconsin-Eau Claire 23-0 at home on Saturday. The Scots (0-9) and Blugolds (4-3) had never met in women’s lacrosse.

The visitors scored 2:14 into the game and pushed the lead to 9-0 with 4:30 to go in the quarter. The 10th goal, with 1:44 to play started the running clock. At halftime, UWEC led 14-0 and they made it 16-0 after three quarters. The Blugolds scored seven times in the final quarter for the 23-0 win.

Monmouth was outshot 38-1 with Kaylee Doebert (Mount Horeb, Wisconsin) taking the only shot. Lea Selquist (Peru, Illinois) made eight saves and added three ground balls. Noelle Faulk (Elmhurst, Illinois) also had three ground balls and Olivia Turley (Carlinville, Illinois) led the Scots with one caused turnover.

The Scots are next in action on Saturday, April 15 with a MWLC game at Northwestern-Minnesota. The next home game is Wednesday, April 26 against St. Benedict.
