Governor Jb Pritzker and Other State Leaders Tour Storm Damage in Belvidere

Governor JB Pritzker and other leaders are touring areas hard hit by tornados. The first stop was in Belvidere, which is in northern silliness just east of Rockford. High winds clocked in at 90 miles per hour caused a partial roof collapse at the Apollo Theatre where a concert was playing. The Governor says one person was killed, 48 were treated at the hospital and five remain in critical condition.

“People were told to seek shelter. There is a basement or there is some shelter within the building, but it happened so quickly thereafter that as far as I understand, no one was able to actually get to that shelter in time.”

Emergency management agency officials say it will take a few days to total up all the damage across Illinois. This will help the state seek additional federal resources for recovery efforts.
