Monmouth City Council Hears First Reading on Solar Energy System Regulations

Share

The first reading of an ordinance regarding solar energy system regulations for residential and non-residential properties in the City of Monmouth was heard at the latest City Council meeting, states Administrator Lew Steinbrecher:

“The proposed ordinance only allows for roof mounted or wall mounted solar systems on residential property and then allows both roof mounted and ground mounted solar panels on non-residential, predominately commercial or industrial property. These solar systems would be accessory uses. They would be supplemental to the primary use. There was some discussion about whether or not we would want to have solar energy systems as a principle use, which would be basically exclusively solar panels with no buildings.”

No action was taken by City Council. The change to the ordinance was referred back to administration to bring back the ordinance at the April 17th meeting for consideration.
