As the outdoor grilling season is here, Monmouth Fire Captain Craig Cozadd offers tips to keep in mind to remain safe and preventing fires:
“Whether you are using pellet grills or LP gas, there is different hazards with each. We have the heat factor with all of them. We want to make sure people are using their grills away from structures. A lot of times we run into people that have them on their porches and is can create a problem because of the vinyl siding and melt the siding or catch the porch on fire, so there are things to be aware of. Of course, you have flash overs with grease fires in the grill so you want to keep your grill clean. If you have an LP tank fire, technically you are not suppose to store LP tanks inside your garage, but if you have a grill fire, and LP fire, don’t hesitate to call the fire department even if you think you can get it out because time is money with the LP fires for sure. We have a specific way we put those out, but the big thing is that if you are using a grill, just stay with it and watch it.”
